Now I’m Three & I Know …
A Preschool Poem
by CJ Heck

I know never touch fire, that’s HOT,
but I can touch ice, 'cause it’s not,
& puppies are soft & kitties are too,
so’s most of the stuff moms & dads give to you.

I know, never tell people they’re fat,
'cause it will hurt them if I do that,
& rocks aren’t for throwing at others
but it’s okay to throw pillows at brothers.

I know daddy says swears I can’t say,
& I have to wear clothes out to play,
'cause one time I went outside naked
& Mrs. Johnson saw me & she called Mommy
& Mommy came outside & got mad (sniff)
& she yelled at me (sniffle-sniffle) & I had to
sit in a chair for a whole time out and …

I know cookies smell better than cheese,
& to get one, I have to say "please",
& how to go pee in the potty,
but not in my pants, 'cause that’s naughty.

I know flowers don't needs any feet,
& no dessert if I don’t eat my meat,
& I got to blow boogers in tissue,
& don't wipe off where ladies kiss you.

When I wake mommy up, never holler,
& pennies are not more than a dollar,
& scissors are never for cutting my hair,
the barber does that, (but I hate going there).

I laugh 'cause it's better than cry,
& you can’t squeeze a worm, it will die,
& Daddy will laugh if I’m burping,
& Mommy’s kiss helps when I'm hurting,

I know SO many things, now I'm three,
& this stuff helps ME be a good ME.
I know lots more than I did when I’m two
of the stuff I can do and I can’t do.

Just gorgeous....and my two 3s are about to become 2 fours!!!

You have 5 grandsons - I have 6! I also have 2 granddaughters! Do you, too?

I love your childrens poetry, it's like you revert to the child your writing about. Sometimes I wish I could go back and make it all different. Your poems help me see what I missed. Great stuff!

Hi CJ, this is so cute! It sure is fun watching little ones grow. I even find myself wondering what babies think when they look at you and smile and kick their little legs in excitement when you're talking to them. I just wonder!

Ahh this is brilliant CJ, I loved it, It's been quite a while since I had to use my three year old voice, (amazing how quickly it comes back, lol,)

And the say all the good things in life are free...or are they prohibited :) Just joking. This indeed made me smile. Now with my grandson, I don't say don't do that. I say good boy whenever he responds. Bless his smile, he continues to do what I don't want him to do....guess I'll have to wait until he's three. Victor

No matter how bad I feel your poems always take the sadness away and pleads the light inside me to shine.I can count on it. This is adorable and I'm sharing it with me ten month old grandson. Thank you for this keeper.

This is so cute and it is just what three year old's say, my granddaughter Jozie is three and many of the expressions are many that she has relayed in the past. I love to read you work it always brings a smile to my face, and we could all use more smiles. Wonderful work my dear friend.

This one is spot on and as my two granddaughters approach the three year old mark I have already heard a lot of this knowledge expressed by them as well. You gotta love kids, they are beautiful and so is this write CJ. Did you get my message?

An adorable write CJ!
My little one just turned 3, as well as my grandaughter too!
Yeah, I know...God has a sense of humor! If you replace all your "I" with "My" thats how my daughter talks! So cute! Her new swear word is "Freak n'egg" Smiles!
I love this write...so close to home!
