Swimming in Love

The waters are
deep
and
inviting.
Some touch the bottom with ease,
while others must
tread
awhile,
until confidence is found,
pacifiers and lifesavers are regarded
with their inhibitions,
and the refreshing sandy bottom
caresses their toes.
Boats surround us.
People of all ages timidly
glance over the cold
stainless steel
railings
at the cool waves below.
Longing, wishing,
for just one taste of
the untouchable heaven
that surrounds them,
to lose themselves
in the blissful feeling
the waves provide.
something,
somehow,
is holding them back.
Fear?
Desperation?
The compressed,
held-in
zipped-up
feelings go completely
unnoticed
by those already splashing
in the vast ocean.
The boats ladder,
however,
is constantly being
climbed-upon
by the weary and restless,
the tired and drowning,
The ones who assume that the safety being forever dry promises
is more satisfying
that the tumultuous ups and downs
of the sea.
Few have the ability to return
and immerse themselves completely
ever again.
And so the cycle continues,
never changing,
altering.
Beware of love's boats.
Do not hold yourself prisoner.
Absolutely anyone
can learn
how
to
swim.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
