The subtle scent of
crinkled paper,
dust,
and timelessness fills my nostrils.
Here, the world stops.
I have no age,
no responsibilities.
I am free,
free to remember,
free to forget.
I am four,
Seventeen,
fifty.
I am your mother,
Your sister,
your friend.
I am nobody,
But more of a
somebody
than I have ever been before.
I curl up, attempting to loose myself
In the peaceful quiet
that engulfs me.
My every sense is heightened,
sharpened.
The faint echoes of former inhabitants
of these pages
whisper out to me seductively,
drawing me in,
flowing through my brain.
I am who I imagine,
whatever I want to be.
The harmony of your words caresses my tongue softly,
an unstoppable river of
silent, mouthed beauty.
The third page tells me that
Meghan was here, But for now,
This
book
is
mine
alone.
This is beautiful Natasha, and yes I have often lost myself to a book, being anyone, anywhere I have chosen to be just as your words have taken me. Thank you darling for sharing.
Reading this Natasha brought back so many memories. As a writer and as an avid reader I can now look back to my young years and still recall the sense of being free each time I opened a new book to read. I can remember stacking up as many books at the library as they would let me borrow...almost as if fearing that if I wait the ones I chose may not be there the next time. This is a great piece of work young lady to be able to reawaken such long lost memories and bring a smile to my face. Thank you for sharing.

This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
day.
