The lights are out, each switch is lost,

No matches can be found,

To reconcile would be best,

Yet still, you stand your ground.

A battle rages inwardly

Provoked by your own mind,

Yet somewhere in the great abyss

You’ve learned to toe the line.

You hide your face with someone’s dream

Of stereotyped lust,

You prance about in mom’s high heels

And grin, because you must.

Fashions come, then fade away,

But one trend won’t be shared;

Beneath your low-rise, faded jeans,

You hide your underwear.

Yesterday was Saturday,

You know this for a fact,

For sitting in your laundry bin,

Those panties stare right back.

You drink your beer in sippy cups,

And dance only at home,

You secretly watch YTV,

And live life through the phone.

You people-watch and criticize,

You cry, you laugh, you learn,

Someday you’ll be just what he needs,

Today you’d rather yearn.

You love your life, you love this world,

But hate earth as a whole,

There’s a pessimistic optimist

Incased within your soul.

‘Chameleon’s’ your middle name

Your colors change by day,

You’ve yet to find which suits you best

For life gets in the way.

Your in-between, you’re half way through,

Your life’s still a clean slate,

So make your move, chalk doesn’t stain,

And some things just can’t wait.

Oh honey this is cute, but you don't want to grow up too fast as you are only young once and time will go by too quickly. Takes me back in time. Thank you for sharing.

A beautiful write and a wonderful look at being young and the complexities that the young grow into without understanding why, and we as adults often forget what it was like to be at such a turmoiled age. Well expressed feelings Rolo.
