Thoughts of winter,(not my favorite season),its impending arrival and how it correlates to life....

Poem Artwork

Early morning-

the scent of autumn perfumes the air.

Although the sun is shining brightly,

my nose is cold and my fingertips numb.

There is a steady chatter from a flock of

sparrows occupying an old nearby oak and it

causes me to smile, for it is almost as though the

sparrows believe their continuous prattle will keep

 winter at bay.

Wrapping  my sweater around me a bit tighter,

I head for home wanting out of the cold and a hot

cup of tea, reminding  myself that acceptance is how

a grand part of the battle is won.

You obviously see winter as I do, as I can not contain myself for the arrival of spring...thereupon the sparrows and finches shall present a more favorable reception then...and our hearts will warm much quicker.

Wise words, Dawn. I like this quiet moment. Much of your poetry has images of you deep in thought. I find myself thinking of you as someone who is constantly learning and seeking answers, as we all should be. A great poem.

YOU ARE RIGHT...LOVING OUR LIVES SO MUCH, WHEREBY WE CAN ACCEPT WHAT WE DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE BUT CANNOT CHANGE...IS A TRUE VICTORY. WELL WRITTEN AND THANKS FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS. LOVE & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Dawn, for me personally it is not acceptance as much as it is submission or acquiescence. While winter offers beauty to the eye that is incomparable at times, cold weather and bitter winds hold no allure for me. As for your beautiful poem, my reception was more than favorable. A delightful work my dear friend. Love and peace to you. Jon Michael

Wise words and a most apt and timely write that awakens my thoughts of coming winter. Lovely, Dawn. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and best wishes,

I also have no fondness for the long, dark winter !

Very well expressed, and developed into something 'larger' than winter, Dawn.

Yes, I've just written a passage in a book on which I'm working - the heart of it acknowledges that acceptance lives on the far side of tolerance. Acceptance is a step - no a quantum leap - beyond tolerance and it is a liberating and far lighter place to be. There's no teeth gritting or looking the other way in acceptance.

A joy to share your thoughts, Dawn. Even after my tumble on
the ice last winter, I'm still a guy of all seasons...though I
love these lines:

sparrows believe their continuous prattle will keep
winter at bay.

Boy, can I identify with this one, Dawn. I'm not a winter person at all.

"...my nose is cold and my fingertips numb."
You take me, Dawn, to a world and to sensations I no longer experience, they reside only in memory, and when you are perpetually warm it's difficult to imagine the 'other' state...and then that great notion of acceptance, the key to all, hinting at lot and destiny.

I like it!

A nice walk - I agree, winter is not even for the birds. They fly south and that's where I want to be!

Amen! Well done!

Love the second stanza, Dawn. You're poetry flows so evenly and the reader gets carried away with your inner thoughts. That is a good thing.
