Children are our future, but oh how they help us remember our past.
I sit alone and watch the children playing
the sound of their laughter is on the wind
kites flying, dogs barking,
summer is in the air
I push the swings ever so high
and watch as they reach to the sky
Sara smiles and her eyes dance
joy that only a child can feel
Oh to be that innocent
to feel such unbridled joy
at something so simple as a swing
Xander jumps on thew trampoline
giggles as he bounces
little feet, and little legs seem to come from nowhere
Shocks of blond hair go racing by
as Cammie and Avery want to fly
up, up, up and away
on their swings (but they are rocket ships today)!
Children delight in the simplest of things
Oh, to be a child again
But would I trade this moment in time
TO see these little ones so sublime
I think not.
So I will remain to be the grown up
Watching with pride and love
these little angels that I love so much
For the swings will still be here tonight
When all are sleeping
and I will be
A child again on the tire swing
thinking back to when I was
the little angel in the sky.
So sweet, I can almost see your little group (grandchildren?) enjoying those swings and trampoline. How they can lift our hearts! And I like your thoughts on trading the joy of being a child for remaining the watching adult. Lovely.
