Noah’s Birth
Earth’s face changes
with nativity, and a
winsome warmth of
milk comes forth
with uncompromising
giving.
In those first minutes
we give back all
our ancient history,
how we came to be—
consumed in loving care
of a breast-bound, cuddling
something that will
become our eternity.
I love the thought
of that song, inverted
dialog of atoms shuffling
up and down, magical
strings lovely as Mozart’s
sounds crying out together,
panoply of life coming
out of water so slippery
it’s hard to hold on.
