Remembering and Honoring the Cosby Show

Whoever heard of a family named Huxtable in the 'hood
But, I thought, we'll give it a try - it may just be good
Soon I came to love the humor and zany wit
Indeed, the wisdom of discipline voiced by Heathcliff
And when Clare in firm reproof looked at Denise and said: "Don't ever speak to me in that tone of voice" the girl was through!... just hung her head
The times between all the disipline and fun
Cliff and Clare showed the joy of being united as one
And whenever Vanessa and Rudy got into a fight
As loving parents, they made everything right
In love C and C always arose to the occasion
Whatever the need- a hug, sharing their bed, or gentle persuasion
On a woman's role Elvin voiced his pitiful stand
He soon learned how to respect women and be a better man
Thanks to Sondra, strong willed making her point known
Just as easily made sure that kindness was shown
Theo grew up to be quite the young man
Showed us the difference between I can't and I can
Vanessa with verbiage that interested us all
was often a refreshing young lady on her way to the mall
So many scenes flash through my mind
The Prom Queen, the anniversaries, Dizzy, Sammy, Nancy, Miriam, Lena and B.B. did shine
Rudy so full of fun and delight Showed "Bud" the meaning of women's rights
Grandparents Huxtable and Hanks with loving support
did well to give advice when tempers ran short
Pam, Charmaine, and Lance too. Sly, Martin and all the others we knew
Olivia who with dimpled face and ethnic attire
was a vison of sugar and spice, intellect and fire
You became our family and friends
Oh so much you gave on a canvas called sitcom you made a way
to teach and to love, to laugh and to cry
to experience cultural diversity and exhibit cultural pride
Excellence was no stranger
Mediocrity was not assuaged
Yet acceptance was the norm in the relationships you made
We shared so much - I didn't want to believe that the sit-com family would soon take their leave
Then... I thought... the image was much more than what technology brought
The image was indeed in all that was taught
Children who can look to their own fathers and mothers, honoring them as well as others
I'll remember blinking back the tears as you waltzed off the stage
I filed those special memories(in my heart)the space marked Huxtable page I'll remember the laughter from that moment hence
Huxtables indeed - hood ain't been the same since!
