Illusions are trivial concerns
when thought about
during long thunderstorms
as lightning flashes and
raindrops charge
into that solitude
of those four walls,
with Bible placed within
easy reach
this source of protection
beyond thunderclaps,
a phenomena of wonder
eases all fear,
as the duality of life
takes center stage,
and on those nights
many recall mortality,
insights growing stronger
while the storm continues
to rage,
but forgotten so quickly
when damp earth sighs,
replete and satiated,
as the sweet, fragrant
scent of renewal,
sashays in through
open windows,
and gives pause to
eternity's calling.
