Let me be free
From the chains of the Church,
Ecclesiastical offices and dignitaries
That bound me with their holy orders—
Propaganda all!
Hocus-Pocus,
Bell, book, and candle,
Release me from the ponderous weight
Of velvet vestments
And pontifical babble!
Let my soul soar
High above cathedrals made of stone
And the vain, idle ceremonies
Of the Wardens of the Word—
Who have stood so long between God and me!
This poem developed the subject well to the penultimate line... There the exorcism didn't work. The seventh word of the closing line comes from the Greek-Roman empire, and it means I SALUTE ZEUS. (ZEUS-DEUS-TEUS-ODIN.)
I read a profound composition... "Exorcism" is a poetic accomplished goal, and the subject dealt developed a clear picture to convey the message.
