A man once lived in silence
In a room without a key
And could never find the words
That would serve to set him free.
He’d pace within the shadows
Of his lonely prison house,
Lacing his fingers through the bars
When no one was about.
At times I’d hear him whisper
In the gray half-light of dawn
And glimpse the tortured image
Of the man encased in stone;
But I couldn’t scale the walls
Of that cold, forbidding place
To reach the silent captive
He kept locked behind his face.
Outstanding imagery and subject dealt.
