When It Rains

A silly little feel good poem I created with children in mind for a rainy day excursion, but it tends to make a smile in the adults mind too.

When It Rains

When the sky starts to cloud up
and get cold and wind blowing,
I just grab my coat and my tote,
and get myself rolling.

I know the hard rains can bring a disaster,
so I skip a few steps before running faster.
The soft, fragrant rain gives drinks to the thirsty,
while the hard and cold rains keep me grabbing
for my warm clothes so jerky.

When it rains, I need my tote.
It carries the things that keep me afloat.
It has my umbrella that covers my head,
when the rain, thunder, and  lightning are all overhead.

When the waters start to rise,
I just pull out my umbrella surprise.
Until I can get to the life-saving boat,
I use my upside-down umbrella
to keep me afloat.

When it rains, the water pours.
That is when I like to be indoors.
They say the water comes in sheets.
But that is where I like to put my feets.

And then after I'm home, safe, dry, and warm in my bed,
I pull up my blankets way up to my head,
and as I snuggle and listen to the soft droplets patter,
I fall off to sleep, knowing that all things matter.

Good introduction to creative writing for Children. Bring out the inner child in me.

It is whimsical poem; with an Edward Learesque bent. Great rhymes within rhymes that has the poem skipping along to its meter.

(I know the hard rains can bring a disaster,
