I miss you, Mom.
I always missed you.
You wouldn’t even let me call you ‘Mom;’
You said, Call me Mother.
Never call me Mom or Momma. I am your mother.
I waited for you to tell me girl secrets,
But you said, not right now.
I tried to take you to share my fun,
But you said the stress might kill you.
I tried so hard to be everything that mattered
But when I came near, you whispered to your friend,
Then, finger in front of your lips,
You said, Oh, there she is.
I miss you, Mom,
Not because the spot you once filled is empty now,
But because you never filled that spot in my heart
That is shaped like ‘Mom.’
I miss you, Mom,
But that’s okay.
Just tell me once, just once,
That you are glad I’m your kid.
That’s all.
I really miss you, Mom.
