Fighting for Life

I've not written in years... first poem in over 5 years.

 The wind outside blows empty...
a promise never kept
as storm clouds twirl, teasing
great tears just never wept.

Life seem slower in these days...
five hours to move but just one inch.
Horrors abound and pain is Legion
and in its face, I barely flinch.

The River Styx a myth you say?
I crossed its waves and reached shore.
Changed as I was and different as you are
it felt as though there was yet something more.

I bade farewell to my father that day
and watched as he slipped past that wave
Ferryman mourning the same tears as I
for I knew he was now past the grave.

Life seems gray and lackluster at best
and I am an indifferent critic in print.
Writing of the moments past and future
and lamenting the sad and torn present.

Fighting my own fight to stay on this shore
Oh, how the days were so very long.
I'd pray for a cure to God every passing night
only to find how I'm naive and so wrong.

The wind is oblivious to the torment within
I watch its breath past my window's pane.
I'll not fess up to weakness and sorrow...
at least, not when there comes the rain.

I've not written in years!!

Currently fighting for my life with severe gastroparesis and on a feeding tube for the past 4 months. Lost my dad suddenly on January 7, 2016
Life is a battle that I am fighting and winning... at only 36 years old!! I will do it and I want to continue to write so that when anything happens to me, my words will live on and remain.

Keep up the good fight for your life,
and talk to God about your condition,
tell Him that you need healing, Lori!
Who knows, if it pleases Him, then He may heal you.
May you be blessed!

I'm glad you're back writing. Especially with the heap of trouble that's been piled on you lately. I certainly hope there's a cure for your gastroparesis. I have some digestive problems that don't get better with age and increased paralysis.

I like your positive attitude in spite of it all.

A deeply personal, meaningful, and moving poem, Lori. I extend my empathy to you with regard to the challenges that you have faced. I admire your attitude as you state it in the epilogue to your poem. I am not sure of course, since this is not my poem but I think you may have meant to write "seems" in this verse:

Life seem slower in these days...

I often make typos and appreciate it when others point them out so that I can edit them.

Love, strength, and best wishes to you,

Regis

Lori . . . This indepth poem of your touched me where I haven't been touched in many years . . .

"The River Styx a myth you say?

Changed as I was and different as you are"

No, my dear Lori, you will never be like "us" ever again, you crossed and came back. That makes you so very different.
