This peom I just wrote today in response to a formal complaint made to me by a "several" co-workers who had made comments on how I displayed a flag in my office.

My immaturity tends to give me away,
But allow me to explain myself clearly,
You may not believe someone my age,
Actually cares about their country dearly.

My views may be liberal and progressive,
I may not believe in a holy god above,
And people very rarely agree,
With how I look at this country you speak so fondly of.

I don’t agree with this war or the man, who started it,
I don’t agree with most of those who don’t understand,
The problems we are faced with every day,
It does matter to me and I have taken my democratic stand.

We do want to make a difference in this society,
We do have opinions on things like the economy and healthcare,
Just because you don’t agree,
Doesn’t make my actions any less fair.

You believe what you want to believe,
And I’ll go about my life doing what pleases me,
This country was built on the theme of freewill,
And something we all may have forgotten, something called democracy.

Our country is ruled by the people supposedly,
And everyone has a right to voice their views,
But how dare you say I do not love my flag?
It’s not me who you should be so ready to accuse!

Why don’t you punish the white collar Americans?
Who step on every blue collar to get one step ahead?
They are the ones, who don’t appreciate the hard work,
That our forefathers have sweat and bled.
