This poem is a humorous reflection on living peacefully with our world neighbors and not judging them because they are different.

Soliloquy
By Jayne Bullock

The buzzard and I, one sunny day,
on a tree stump sat, talking away.
Discussing the world was the topic at hand.
Buzzard stated he was taking a stand.
"I think," said I, "the world's in a mess.
But still. there's a lot of good people in it, I guess.”
Then said he to me most emphatically,
lifting his feathers and shifting dramatically.
"Things sure ain't the way they seem;
take for example, the 'you and me' scheme.
Now, I've always been deemed a bad sort of fellow:
mischievous, vicious, uncaring -- even yellow.
Of course you know that's not really me;
actually I'm loving and most understanding," said he.
"Judging a bird by his feathers is certainly sad.
After all, some of us buzzards ain't so bad."

The buzzard said to me that long, hot day.
"I think our world has a price to pay
for those who cheat and steal and kill;
cruelly and unjustly harm others at will;
for those who cause danger and are unfair
to good and kindly folk who really care.
Not one person should be allowed
to harm another," he said with head bowed.
"There must be a way," he proclaimed loud and clear,
"to live in friendship and peace -- without any fear."
Well, Buzzard and I sat that whole long day
discussing and planning, not finding a way
for all mankind to live peacefully under our sun.
Guess God knew it just couldn't be done.
"So you see," said that buzzard to me,
as we set by the stump of the tree,
"you and me, we're just the same -
both playing the waiting game."

A delightful tale with a moral to it, but I still hold on to the faith that one day all mankind will be able to live peacefully and show respect for neighbors...

Be always safe,
Karen
