the Calling of a Soldier

The tensions are rising
The missiles light the skies
I pray constantly that we all
Leave this place alive.

Today my camp received the news
A convoy of my comrades had been ambushed
About twelve are missing
No, the word was, three were killed
Execution style
The rest are POW’s now

We increase on our defenses
As now our mission is increased
Not only to defeat these men
But to get our fallen comrades back

God, Knows we all pray for strength
And a quick end to all this destruction

The news men are here by our side
Sometimes I feel they are in the way
As we continue to fight into another day

Rumor has said that more American’s are dead
We are closer to the destination
Where we may meet with annihilation
If bio bombs are used

Each time these thought run through my mind
I remember this is the life I Chosen
So my family and Friends could continue to be free
I often realize, at moments like this
My destiny has come, a hero I may or may not be
But a soldier I chosen to be
Fighting for what my country defends
Sometimes for things I don’t believe in
Yet, I fight with pride
I have lived a soldier’s life with no regret
And if need be
I will look death in the eyes
And continue to fight
And if for some chance I die
I will die with courage
