Joyce Devenish 1929-2015
My darling mother( who was a poet here)
she's been dead now well over a year
she and I were very... VERY ...close
so I've been grieving more than most.
It's taken me this long to write, or share,
but some may remember mum
and some of you may care
and I feel a comfort that her poems are still here
she loved this place and its poets so dear.
She was herself until those weeks that were her last
until Alzhiemer's stole her memories of her family and her past
and at 86 years of age
her pen ran empty on life's page
and I wanted to tell you
but I could not write
my heart has been broken
but the time is now right
to tell you 'a lady passed away'
an Authorsden poet...
and YOU all brightened her days.

My mom also has dementia, and so your poem rings very clear in my heart. Your mom would be so moved, I'm sure, to know you wrote this special poem about her.
I love reading your poems because they come from such a beautiful heart.

My mother has had ministrokes that have robbed her of her speech and writing ability. Fortunately, her mind is sharp at 92 even though she can no longer hear and arthritis and diabetes are taking their toll. I am too far away from her to even visit… The last time was 2011. But she calls me every Monday at 4 PM (her choice) and we talk while she reads my voice in captions.

I, too have a fairly advanced case of that memory thing. Scary, to say the least.
My sympathies for the loss of your beloved mother.
