Finding yourself can take a life time... and no matter who you find under those layers, I'd bet you could use a hug!
I've lived my life...
Behind jackets,
Behind baggy pants,
And long sleeves,
Behind a masked opinion
Guarded humor,
Behind the hope
Of superficial dreams.
I've lived my life in hiding
Scared...
Of ridicule,
Biased critiques,
Shallow proposals,
Secret vendettas,
From malicious gossip leaks.
Embracing caution...
Existing just to please.
Inevitably shifting focus
To everyone else's needs.
Invisible on purpose
Shamefully, the martyr no one sees
Lies beneath the layers
Of the someone I called "me."
I enjoy reading your poetry and your woroks. You are a talented poet and I am looking forward to reading the next poem. You I heard someone on television by the name of Dr.Mike Murdoch says that a person doesn't decide who they are, they discover who they are.take care of yourself.I look forward to reading the next poem
