A farewell to the crutches I had used all my life until I was nineteen, when I put them down for the last time.

Good-bye Ralf; Good-bye Irving
Though you've been true and long in serving,
grab your hats and find the door
'cause I won't need you anymore.

When I was young, just three feet tall,
I would take two steps and then I would fall.
The doctors, all so blind, would say,
"Get her crutches; that's the way!"

Then you two were on the scene,
Such nice new friends on which to lean.
Much less were fear and balance tucsels;
Less stil exercise for my leg mucsels.

My heels were high and my feet weren't straight,
so the doctors said, "We'll operate."
Then for my feet came leg braces,
which much improved my walking traces.

The braces were with us until I was ten,
when the doctor said, "You won't need them, again.
Now I'm near twenty and on this crowning day--
it is time I send you on your way.

You've held me up and eased my fears.
You've helped me walk through all these years.
So grateful for the journey, and now our journey's done.
I know you'll understand that I'm so very glad you're gone.

I can relate to your struggle. May the braces never have to go on again. But if they do, may you benefit from, “just in time technology,” just like I do.

The Ravyn: Riding the Cyclone by Jennifer Sloan by Erin Kelly-Moen

This book has been eight years in the making. It is mostly a jumble of thoughts written down in old spiral notebooks and hidden in the bottom drawer underneath various manuals for software packages and hardware long since turned obsolete.
