I Will Never Ride a Barrel Over Niagara--answering the challenge

The first time I posted this, I felt so exposed. I removed the poem less than an hour later. But, I do love a challenge, so here's my response to Michelle's challenge...

Michelle, here it is. You'd think since I don't know the people who read these, sharing it would be a breeze. The recluse in me fights to remain out of sight...

Poem Artwork

When past being recluse
I catch sunsets reflected by swift-running-water Niagara
I get hynotized by an ion-charged waterfall
I'm driven like a magnet to WNY shorelines

ships on the lake grab me
the sound of waves breaking shore gives me peace
I collect sea-glass in colors of yesteryear's bottles
worn smooth by rushing water, sands and time

screeches and hoots from owls intrigue me
sounds of songbirds, sounds of silence
night crickets chirping, trains on rails, train whistles
all of it--music to my ears

I shout in awe at meteors in shower
night time is my morning--in it I am more alive
3rd shift was first, second and third by choice
24-hour businesses get hands full of my dollars

vegetables-- God's great gifts send me out the door
to farmers' market--blocks away, my weekly health-haven
tho' somebody tell me please--why sugar-coat vegetables

I'll drizzle cinnamon honey over blueberries & curds

I drink milk, lots of it
I write about milk
I want more milk
I'll use powder-milk if need be

I write now and then
I like to write, but need a push to share it
I prefer invisibility sometimes
with little exception

photography sends me toward serene
capturing fragments of my world in fractions of a second

outdoors I whole-heartedly accept the challenge
blinking with every click o' the camera shutter

I have more tools than most men
but I forget and ask my younger bro' for help
he reminds me I have the specialized tools he gave me
thoughtfully, so I "can-do" despite my disabled self

I couldn't carry the tools home
to the place where an infamous idiot lived
but now I live here, and people still talk about him
did he ever learn the golden rule--treating others...

solutions keep me challenged
give me a minute, I'll have upbeat answers
you have my attention if you use what I teach you
to help yourself and others--I lack patience for less

there's barely a day I'm not off balance
experiencing vertigo or forgetting the day
my shoulders are shot
I have to laugh anyway to keep crazy at bay

so, fish are giving pedicures now?
something as unique can heal  any of us
I want strength like ants, able to carry many times their weight
I want the memory of elephants too, if what I hear is true

I'm a sister to two brothers, and to a Sis who's older than me
I'm a decent sis to my younger brother
I hope I'm a pretty good daughter
I'm an aunt who never sees nieces or nephews

I erroneously married myself to working
at least two jobs at a time, because I could
a genius pointed out that on a death-bed
no one says they wish they'd worked more

the box with 50+ to represent age
that's the one I check-off
my AARP subscription ends in 2014
I don't have a tan line

my future is beginning
right now

This is a lovely write. I recognize many things here from what you have said in the past. Nice to see it all so poetically inscribed. Your engaging mind to captures here the many faces you show the world, and some of those that you that normally don't or wished you hadn't. This poem shows we are all more alike than we think. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing, Sue.

Like you, I am rather reluctant to "tell" others about myself. I think you have done a wonderful job of answering Michelle's challenge. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,

You write like you are so young and observing nature and all. I assumed you were younger person til you put the 50+ age up there. Join the club i am in the 60+ one. Getting older brings on its aches and all and pains galore. I like the fact that you stated the ocean brings you peace. It does to me too and ocean life is my thing. Don't live near it but wish I could. Thanks for this write.

very brave indeed to bare your soul to strangers -- but why you ever though to remove it puzzles me -- this is a magnificent poem and tribute to a warm and wonderful person -- it would have been almost sinful not to share -- each of us that choose to write reveal a little of ourselves with each piece of work -- thanks for giving us the opportunity to share this insight -- JMW

Outstanding write...love your style and the wonderful glimpse at a such a real and interesting person. I too love vegetables and could live happily without meat, I collect rocks from the mountains but love pick up sea glass while on vacation. I never leave the house without my camera as I love photography too...it also took me a long time to show the world my writing. While working on my masters degree a professor at the college encouraged me to enter a short story in a writing competition....I hesitated but finally entered it and guess what? I won, giving me the courage that I needed to allow others to read my work. I loved your write, your style, and meeting yet another wonderful den friend. Welcome aboard! Oh, I love the falls as well...I've only been twice, but both times it was an unforgetable experience, would love to return again in the near future! Enjoyed!
Blessings from Ky.

I've always like Niagara Falls. My hubby and I go there almost once a year or a mini vacation. Well, this year we have not done this yet because he has been ill.

You have spun quite a tale with this challenge. I think this is well met. I'm happy to have read this.

Sue,
Lovely poetry! My sister treated my husband and I to a trip from Va. to Niagara Falls! It was awesome! We've never had the finances to travel anywhere and this trip was one I'll never forget. My first plane trip too! I loved it!!!! Thanks for taking me back.

Blessings,

Very well written biography that incorporates the inner being within your beautiful soul. You are a beautiful person and though difficult to break through the ice you have accomplished a fine task. We have much in common, thanks for sharing...

Be always safe,
Karen
