Soul Searcher

He moves slowly beneath the cover of night

Weaving blindly through the shadowed halls of his darkest dreams

He wants the bright light of the heart to shine

But he has long extinguished the fires that once burned warmly there

It is now all just memories of the human experience

Of the time when he felt almost like all the rest of them

When he felt that people were happy loving him, without knowing him

Clinging to their idol who seemed more of a god than a man, and he found comfort there

The spirit is a wretched marauder

A living thing that continues to ignite hope

Only to be slaughtered by deeds, false gods and truths

It is an ember burning the edges of the dreams that hold a glimmer of who he used to be

He is but a man in search of the child inside his heart

The one he maimed with his deeds, who still haunts his soul from within

Leaving splinters of long ago dreams that fester in hope

And drown in the tears that leave him frozen in time

There is another world out there for him,

One he has earned, one where he can once again thrive

If only he could face the fears of the light of the day

And forsake the shroud of darkness and shame that has become his cloak

Sounds like a Republican to me (lol)
but he is too shallow for politics. It looks like he
is too afraid to jump, just wants attention. He's a
coward, and that gets a bit chunk of humanity.

Now I know why I miss your presence here. But so glad that you have posted this intriguing and mysterious poem. Many thoughts raced through my mind as I read. Some of them paralleling what the others have written. Certainly there are metaphors for something real. But what is it?

May I venture that you are describing the lonely life of a vampire?

The saddest thing in life is to live in false friendship. To be surrounded by fake friends who only idolize you for who they want you to be, and not the person who you want to become. To be true to oneself we need to ask the child within us who do we want to be.

Sometimes, though one is surrounded by many friends and seems happy but in fact is the loneliest he/she may feel inside.

This poem is intriguing.

Well expressed and with so much insight into the life of romance we all seek and with luck get to experience at least once in a lifetime. Even if the relationship may not endure forever...the love will if it is true.

I find your poem powerfully engaging and meaningful. I can so relate to this theme that you express here through your verses, Sherry. I have always mourned the loss of childhood innocence as I witness it being eroded by this life/world. That is why I have never been "insulted" when people keep asking when I plan to "grow up." That ship has sailed. I do not have plans to "grow up." 😊 Love, peace, and best wishes to you, Sherry.
