You say you’ve never been turned away
or rejected by any such man
that had met you and kissed you.
Perhaps it was part of your plan

to turn the table and cast him aside
before any feelings came out.
Then you could tell your friends and the others
“When I’m gone he’ll surely find out

I was better for him than he for me,
I’m not missing him at all.”
But dwell on things which have occurred in your past
Maybe it’s your time to stand tall.

Someone surely can love you
for what you are and can be.
Let them do so without any strings
and say, “Someone loves me for me.”

I too, have known my own share of doubts;
I’ve felt love, regret and rejection.
But for all my past failures, one thing that I know
it will not keep me enslaved in subjection

to not letting go and knowing full well
that man and woman can truly be friends.
And that love triumphs over some difficult things
and can truly bring peace in the end.
