I heard the forest’s gentle call
As I stood beside majestic trees so tall,
And listened to the familiar strains
Of fog and intermittent rain.
The memories that I hold of you
Came rushing forth, and I heard them too,
As they called my name from deep within
The forest that held you captive in
A place that seemed to hold the things
I find so dear in my rememberings.
But it held you far away from me
In that place known as my memory.
So I draw on those and listen to
The voice inside as it speaks of you.
It tells me things will be okay
If I can hold out just one more day.
