Bearing it down, Smashing it in, Splitting apart, Releasing my heart. Slashing across, Artwork and scars, Physical pain, Stuck in the rain. Blades are my companion, Friends of my wrist, Begging for a razors kiss, When my entire life's amiss. Safety pins, Earrings, Fingernails, Knives. People get to know them well when they can't control their lives. Razors, Nail Files, Blades, Scissors. I find uses for all when I'm in misery. Blood is flowing, But no emotion is showing. Pain is beating, But my brain is leading. So as I bring the blade upon my arm, I forget about everything, and focus on my own harm.
Very nice poem... I am glad this is in your past and I appreciate such an honest look at "cutting". People don't realize that this happens often in society.
Karen: The reason I did this in the first place was to sort out a lot of problems in my life...you can read "Your Addiction" or "Another Jason" or just about all of my poems to see what they are. But when my friend started cutting I realized that it gets me nowhere and I stopped, evry now and then I get an urge, but I haven't cut for 3 months and 6 days.
Retta: Thank you for your kind words, the anguish isn't ALL in the past, but my bad habits are, I rediscovered writing is all.
J. Allen: I particularly found comfort in your review, thank you for reviewing my poem, and commenting on the writing moreso than my problems.
Lori: Thanks bundles for your review, I'm definitely a happier girl these days. I think I got the main message of yoru review even though I don't know what "catharsis" means.
I am glad you are no longer harming yourself, Kaci, but why did you do it in the first place? There are better ways to deal with your pain, and writing is one of the best therapies around! Powerful, hardhitting write!

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
