A new baby to the family.

Dear little child.

Welcome to a world of excitement and chaos, of light and darkness.

A world of joy and dreams manifest,

And sometimes, unfortunate cruelty and despair.

Welcome to a family,

That will bring great joy and occasional sorrow.

Laughter and brash anger.

We shall motivate and inspire you.

We shall harass and exasperate you.

You shall run the gamut of the strongest emotions,

That shall leave breathless and exhausted, exhilarated and free.

Welcome to our family.

You shall never lack for anything.

You shall learn to question everything, and accept nothing at face value.

You shall be exposed to a variety of strong opinions.

Glean wisdom, hilarity and truth from them all,

Then form your own.
For you shall be expected to express, vocalize and patronize.

With the rest of the pontificators that compromise this crew.

It is up to you.

To love us for our strength of passion and character.

Forgive us our judgment and seemingly unattainable ideals.

All at once shall you feel weak from our criticism.

And made strong by the same values, that have forged generations of successful, strong and proud offspring.

If you learn one thing, from the honor of this association.

That amongst the loud voices and endless noises
You shall hear.

A united message that comes across crystal clear.

Little one, we promise you, unwavering love and loyalty.

Welcome to our family

Wonderful. But since the newborn cannot read, I hope the parents enjoy this offering.

In order to present your poem in the way that you wrote it, some have found that turning off the AD editor solves the problem. I use a "paste special" in my browser window.

The Libra Solution: Shedding Excess and Redefining Success by Lisa DAnnolfo Levey
