Buddy Has A Question
He came with wild eyes,
My grandson of two,
I could see he meant business
And my time with him due.
So he stopped with a thump
At the end of my chair,
Placed his hands down real hard
And gave me a stare.
He opened his mouth,
I was anxious to hear
Just what he had cookin’
Under his strawberry blonde hair.
Then out of his mouth
Came a question for sages.
One of such poignance
That transcends all ages.
He asked it so clearly
Each word carefully placed.
It was direct and concise,
He looked right at my face.
My silent reaction
Caused me to fret,
His look grew more anxious
I started to sweat.
Then out of his mouth
Came that question once more!
The same exact words,
I had heard them before.
The words were not formed, yet.
Just vowel sounds and blurbles.
With innocence he formed
These baby like gurgles.
Bud knew what he wanted
His intent crystal clear.
And could not understand
Why Pa just sat there.
Then, he ran away quickly,
His Mother to find.
To answer the question
On his two year old mind.
I sat there so helpless,
But loved him the more.
Bud would talk soon
Of that I was sure.
We do have our talks,
The words they are few.
But, I know who Bud is,
And he knows his Pa, too.
The Story Teller
My imagination ran wild
Like that of a child
When you told me your crazy life story.
You evoked excitment and terror,
But you made one little error,
When you told me it was all just a lie.
A fantastic story,
With all of that glory,
Was soon laid to rest.
