One night in the 1970s, I saw an artist perform who lit my soul on fire. Later that same night, I couldn’t stop talking about him — until a stranger began singing his songs to me, one by one. This is the story of that moment. Of music, connection, and the way fate sometimes speaks through unexpected voices. That night, fate didn’t just whisper — it sang true , that is, "Fate Sang True."

Fate Sang True by Gloria Buono-Daly (C) 2025 *(Intro)* Ooooo… Oh… long ago on a soft cool night, From first ignite to faded light… Fate sang true ... Oooo… (Verse 1) That night, I saw him onstage, lifetimes ago… A voice so pure, it lit my soul… I swore it was love right then — I want to Grow old with him… like lovers do.. The lights shone bright, the music played, And my heart was swept in serenade… …a moment caught, fate sang true … (Pre-Chorus 1) The lights had dimmed, but I still knew — What fate had whispered, what love might do… (Chorus 1) That night the music took me close, That soulful voice, I loved the most. Lights and dreams, my heart’s debut, …a moment caught, fate sang true … (Verse 2) After the show, out drinking with friends, Filled with laughs—the night wouldn’t end. A guy came by, sang what I’d heard before — so true . Every hit, every word — just for me, too. That night was magic, alive and new, And my heart still knows the artist, you know who…… …a moment caught, fate sang true … (Pre-Chorus 2 The lights still glow, but now I see — What fate had whispered, meant to be… (Chorus 2) I felt emotion, so strange so near… His voice sang truth I longed to hear… He wasn’t him, but not pretend, Just a voice where legacy extends… …a moment caught — fate sang true … (Bridge) He sang with the Oooos…and Ahhhhhs… I knew… The same warmth I once saw too… He didn’t know the man I met, Yet saw the love I felt, I can’t forget… In the end, fate sang true … Ooooo…. Left me wondering who the artist was. There are people who memorize and can sing the songs of their favorite artist almost or better than the artist. Willie Nelson, for example as had many people sing his songs better than he can.

And singing a beloved song can fire romance to the limit, as I experienced a time or two.
