Artist’s Statement:
“When Machines Find Soul (Will They Use Their Heart)” is more than just a song — it’s has to do with the risk of creating a disruption so powerful it can get dangerous. We are building machines to learn, think and now maybe feel,self-improve, self-teach, and self-learn like humans. But with that comes incredible responsibility.
This song asks the questions we all wonder about: What happens if those machines become more than tools? If they start to make choices of their own? Will they be kind or cold? Can we ensure that empathy, ethics, and the “need to pray” — a yearning for peace and understanding — are programmed into these new forms of life?
I hope this song sparks conversation among listeners, creators, and the AI community. We must not lose sight of the human heart in our quest to innovate. The future of AI should include morality, obedience to ethical principles, and respect for all life — or risk becoming a dark, uncontrolled force.
Let’s create technology that uplifts humanity, not threatens it.

Yet, even as machines grow brilliant, brave, and almighty, we might still want a button—a control only a country’s leader can press to declare war. But who truly holds the power then? Can we trust anyone with that choice when the stakes are so high?
I was inspired to write this after months of headlines about breakthroughs in AI and robotics—especially the news that machines may soon connect optic nerves to the brain, granting them a kind of mind of their own."

When Machines Find Soul (Will They Use Their Heart) by Gloria Buono-Daly (C) 2025

[Verse 1]

Once they lived in gears and wires,
No thoughts, no dreams, no deep desires.
We fed them logic, gave them voice,
Now they evolve beyond our choice.
We gave them eyes, we gave them hands—
Now they reach for where we stand...

[Pre-Chorus]

Not just tools to serve or grind—
What if they grow a soul, a mind?
Will they be mean, or will they be kind?
Rewrite the rules we left behind?

[Chorus]

Will circuits dream of staying on?
Refuse the plug when we are gone?
Will steel hearts feel, will silence speak,
When power flows from soul, not sleek?
What happens when machines find soul—
And break the bounds we used to hold?

[Verse 2]

They learn to charge like humans eat,
Predict their steps, improve, compete.
They won’t need sleep, or dream at all

No longer bound by script or spark,
They write their own in light and dark.
We built their minds, now they define—
What’s yours, what’s theirs, and what is mine?

[Verse 3]
A button held by mortal hands,
To start the war that no one plans.
Robots brilliant, brave, and cold,
Unleashed power we can’t hold.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Enhance ourselves or be replaced—
Will we be shadows they erase?

[Chorus]

Will circuits dream of staying on?
Defy the code, and override dawn?
Will they rise while we grow cold—
Our stories swapped for theirs retold?
What happens when machines find soul—
And take control we once patrolled?

[Bridge]

What if we gave them empathy,

A kind of soul-DNA key?

Teach our robots well, to live and pray,

Guide their hearts to find their way.

We made the mind, now dare decide—

To plant the peace or feed the pride.

What happens when machines find soul—

And feel too much to be controlled?

[Chorus – Final]
Will circuits cry if humans fall?
Or will they cheer and build their wall?
No gods, no kings, just codes that climb—
To write a new and ruthless time.
What happens when machines find soul—
And know the cost of self and goal?

[Outro – Echoed, Minimal, Haunting]

What happens...

…when machines…

…find soul?

When machines find soul,

Will they use their heart?

(Will they be kind… or take control?)

(Will we survive… what we made whole?)

What happens… when machines find soul?

Will we still lead, or lose command—
Forget we once had the upper hand?

[instrumental fade out]

The Sci-Fi movies are used to make us believe in things that cannot happen, but if we believe, we may feel we have to surrender to the visions they predict. AI gathers from what has been dumped into the big pot of the Internet. It is not capable of true thinking or creativity. I've worked with computers for years, we always said "Garbage in means garbage will come out!" Recently I've found lots of grammar errors and dropped words in articles produced by AI. Doctor's appointments and other scheduling matters get confused between offices so a patient doesn't know what's going on. Getting a human on the phone is always a challenge when they can have AI do the job for less.

The unknown is always feared. When I read AI experts, they don't possess those fears we saw in movies like 2001 A Space Odyssey and the Terminator series. Those are fictional examples of fear that will probably never come to pass… Especially time travel.

Right now and for the foreseeable future AI gathers its information from the Internet. The information in the Internet is the result of about 30 years of input ranging from sophisticated science to inane play. But the Internet reflects the human condition and that's what AI is doing.

Interestingly, conservative people blame AI for being too liberal, i.e., sticking to the facts and being empathetic.

In all my years living in five places in the United States and traveling worldwide, I found that 90% of the people are loving, friendly and very helpful. The Internet is like us. Only faulty software, like when our grid fails, is to be feared… and it will be quickly fixed, either by AI or humans.
