One of the sweet benefits to growing up as I did was being stationed in far off places before such things as satellite TV and the internet existed. There, we watched what the military gave us to watch. So, in between PSA's about V.D., I would become enthralled in a world that no longer existed. Where beauties like Rita, Ava, and Hedy Lamarr danced and romanced with handsome heroes like Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, and Clark Gable. Returning to more "civilized" places, where TV and movies were only interested in the ratings that translated into moo-lah, and no longer in the art of creating art, was one of the great disillusionings of my life. Whatever lives those early stars lived off screen doesn't matter to me. I will always see them as I saw them then. Beautiful.

Yes she was. I had an inadvertently blushing meeting of her while exiting a Broadway musical back in 80's. I spotted her from the sidewalk where our limo (no, not my choice, but in those Hollywood days I almost drowned in, there was the obligatory do as you're told, and that night I was the invite of producer... and his limo) anyway I was about to step into the back of the limo, when she stumbled out the stage door, very inebriated and slipping the grip of her bodyguard and falling into my outstretched arm. A cordial "thank you" slurred from her lips, a gracious smile and she was whisked off to her own limo by the embarrassed bodyguard. I so remember her lifeless arm being raised with a wave as she was ushered into the limo. Yes... she's all you posted.
