I never thought you'd leave

After being here so long, I took you for granted,

got lost in this thicket of life.

I just had to tell you how much you meant,

though you're gone from this life.

You know you think you have so much time,

time to make up for the past.

The time that's slipped through your fingers,

will never come back.

I was coming to see you,

had it all planned out.

But I put it off until next time,

catch you the next time around.

Thought about you when the snow fell,

everything a soft powdery white.

Thought about you in the spring time,

and on those long lazy summer nights.

I meant to come see you,

and now you're forever gone.

Why didn't you wait for me?

I needed to talk to you, wished you had held on.

While I was living in the moment,

the moment passed me by.

Now I'm left alone by myself,

can't believe a grown man could cry.

I had so much to tell you,

how I've become a better man.

Now I cling to the flowers on your grave,

wishing I had another chance.

Hi Jim!

This is so heartfelt. It pulled at every heartstring with every word. You write it real, Jim. :D

Our biggest regrets in life are not found in what we do but in
what we put off and never did. Great line: "While I was living in the moment, the moment passed me by." Powerful write, Jim.

Jim,

Wow! This really hit home. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm always expressing to people to DO IT NOW. I even have a poem of that title. Oh, the moments lost can never be recaptured. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Many blessings,
+Linda

Beautifully written and expressed. However, so sad. I hope you're just writing about the experience and have not experienced it.

Lesson is always learned the hard way but love can come around again and don't make the same mistake twice. Great poem for men who take their gals for granted.
