Freedom is not free

It must be earned,

Thousands have fallen

On foreign soil

To reassure the freedom of our nation

Thousands of lives lost,

Thousands wounded in battle,

Lives that will never be the same

As I sit next to my dog Roe

As the strong winds blow

And the choppers roar

I feel a sudden chill

As the fear of the unknown creeps upon me

As I look over to my left

My fear of battle is lessened

Knowing our troops dog Roe is by my side

To protect me,

To care for me,

To watch over me in war

As I fight for a worthy cause

Our freedom,

What our nation is built on

What makes us what we are today

Let it be known that not just people love our country

Our dogs do too

As we fight for our freedom together

As we protect our country’s life and liberty

As we the American soldiers,

 And dogs like Roe

Journey to foreign soils to keep our country free

The task is dangerous

However, it is the risk we’ll have to take in order to keep our country free

Remember, when you’re relaxing in your home

Or choosing freely to roam on American soil

That its American soldiers and dogs like Roe

Who make it all possible

To be free
