It was the perfect storm of circumstance,
I tell you friends, I had no chance,
Though I swear to you and God, I did my best,
She looked at me and flashed those eyes,
That looked like they were going to cry,
I tell you, this was not a fair contest.
I’ve ridden broncs and brahma bulls,
And I like to think that I’m no fool,
But she had me lapping milk out of her hand,
My friends looked at me and laughed, I swear,
But I tell you friend, I didn’t care,
Though it must be hard for you to understand.
Because I’m six foot six and four foot wide,
While she is less than half my size,
Yet she had me doing things I’ve never done,
Saying please and opening doors,
And helping with the household chores,
Well don’t laugh yet friends, ‘cause there’s much worse to come.
Did I tell you about the county fair,
When she tried to tell me what to wear?
And I told her I would not sit still for that,
I said, “My cowboy boots will do just fine,
And I like these faded jeans of mine,
And I go nowhere, without my Stetson hat”.
Well she said she was sorry and could I forgive her,
Her eyes were wet and her lower lip quivered,
And it made me feel like a lowdown, heartless brute,
So I said, “Don’t worry, it’s ok,
And I didn’t really mean it anyway”,
And I went to that fair in a double breasted suit.
I was probably the biggest fellow at the fair,
And I won her that snow white teddy bear,
She wanted, though it cost me quite a lot,
Well I know what you’re thinking, I can see that smirk,
You think I’m crazy or some kind of jerk,
For letting her get away with it, friend, but I’ll tell you what.
You go ahead and have your chuckle,
Cause I wouldn’t swap her for the golden buckle,
Or a felt lined, silver studded riding rig,
Because we’ve been married nearly fifteen years,
And I still fall for that smile and those crocodile tears,
But when I get home, I know that’s where she is.
Now we don’t always agree but we compromise,
Ok, I buckle when she flutters those eyes,
But believe me it’s a very small price to pay,
Because she gives back more than she receives,
And I know darn well she’s too good for me,
But she doesn’t believe it, no matter what I say.
What she sees in me, God only knows,
But I must have hit the motherlode,
Of love, when she agreed to be my wife,
Now I don’t know if it’s the norm,
But I tell you she’s the perfect storm,
Of everything this man needs in his life.
