I don't think too much of many of the children today. SOME I have to say are disrespectful and inconsiderate of others. I do know many who knows the meaning of respect, love and care for others.

The Children of Today
Febuary 8, 2026
By Rose Marie Rideout

So many children of today,
Have seriously gone astray.
I blame it on the rules made,
That turn parents into slaves.

They can't raise their voice to them,
They can't correct their child.
For the child's taught in school,
They are aloud to go so wild.

The boys wear their pants so low,
It can barely cover their bum.
They don't seem to look isee themselves

This may be appealing to some.

The girls seem to flaunt their wears,
To make others take a stare.
You can't tell them it's nolt good,
Cause they really don't care.

They don't want to help with chores,
Help with dishes or such things.
Just parade around like royality,
Bodies decorated in those gaudy rings,

Some have no respect for others,
Their parents or teachers to.
For they just seem to know it all,
Laugh and ridicule all of you.

Who can we blame for how they are,
They threat with one phone call to make.
They do just what they want they chose to do,
And the abuse their parents have to take.

No it's not all the children today,
But a huge percentage you will see.
The parents can't raise them right,
Afraid of what  the consequences will be.

My children are all grown adults,
They were taugh right from wrong.
They were taught to respect others,
In a world where they'd belong.

I wouldn't be a great parent today,
I'd break all the rules they've made.
I'd still discipline them by my rules,
And show them I am not afraid.

They need to have some structor,
To be decent and polite to others.
To everyone they come in contact with,
Teachers, friends, siblings, father and mother.

You don't want them to end up in prison,
Behind those cells so lonely and cold.
Because they didn't listen to the rules,
Laid down when they were told.

Reviews of "The Children of Today"

Older generations tend to worry about younger generations. Primarily now, because change is so rapid.

We had bad kids back when I was in school. It was the behavior in the schoolyard, and sometimes in class, that set them apart. They generally didn't wear distinctive clothing or other decorations like they do today to identify with certain other kids. But peer pressure has always been there for the weak to assume or be left out.

I'm not in favor of tattoos and piercings. But archaeology and anthropology has found them going back thousands of years. So they're really not anything new. Just as one counselor told me when I asked about a raised scar image on a young man in a wheelchair.

She summed it up in three words…"Low self-esteem."
