“Growing Older and Forgetting” (First Poem In 3 Years)
As I grow older, my brain forgets
The love we shared on those frozen winter days
The pain remains; those details burnt in flames
But one thing stays the same
My moments with you in photographs stuck in universal time
That only one could envision at a distance
Everyone I know today or once passed on the street
Are dead from head to feet
I think God is playing a dirty trick
Or my life is twisted and sick
Performed just for you on a quiet stage
But my friend, it is just old age
I will always remember those magical days
When we would get into trouble and get in the way
Never wanting to play or stay
Maybe in the flowery days of May
Down by the bay in boats made of clay
Where it cost not a penny to pay
So where do we go from here?
Will it cost anything for a car, bus, plane, ship or bus fare
It doesn’t matter to me; I want to sit next to you again and talk mouth to ear
I wasn’t being rude, just wanted to give you my love, not a scare
I always thought of you as a sister or child to protect you from your deepest darkest fears
You turned out okay, so I guess I did my job, or maybe you figured out life without my care
I do know I will see you again on some strange foreign land
Where in the background we could hear some familiar band
To cheer up the moment and I could get closer to you and know what makes you tick
And we don’t have to worry about problems or tricks
Just the two of us together to laugh the days away and waste some time on this rock
And we don’t have to worry about the master clock
Old age is a funny thing
I keep thinking about why everyone is getting their wings
But then it hits me that our mentors are just at that age
Where it is just their time to exit the stage
My time will come soon enough, but I am in no rush
I think I will stay here just a little bit longer and enjoy the silent hush
Releasing the Mind Fog
Put my life in the hands of God
Breathe in Mountain air
Breathe out the city smog
Give you a big hug
Follow the dancing bug
And I want to thank you for remastering your grandmother's recreations of Bridgeport in the short documentary, A Lady and a City, in 1998 on your website. It is a timeless piece that deserves to be on YouTube for as long as people will view it.
I regret that I've never put my videos on YouTube but I should have. Only on my website.
