This story is inspired by a true event that I witnessed. Sometimes after we become born again we may become complacent and hungry for God. Do not stay in that place. Look for a change as the character of this story did.
Well I did it. I had taken the step.
There I sat in my car, parked across the street from this church I had heard so much about. I had heard a lot of saints saying, the Pastor was dynamic and the spirit of the Lord moved there continuously. I was excited about going. I wanted to meet this Pastor and feel the anointing I heard about.
Being a child in the Lord, only being saved a year and near to a place of backsliding, I knew I needed help. I did not feel like I had the Holy Ghost anymore.
I was saved and filled with Holy Ghost at a huge apostolic church with over five hundred members. The first month someone was always there to talk to me or direct me. Soon that was over and I was left to myself to understand the wonders of the Holy Ghost. I came to each service. I joined the choir and became an usher. Yet, I still knew I missed something. I started to begin to feel the same way I felt before I was saved. I had only spoke in tongues a couple of times. My spirit was hungry. I wanted something more, but was not sure what or how to get it.
Then I heard about this church. Everyone called it that old-fashion church. Yet it intrigued me. I had experienced the modern church I suppose. I got nothing out of it. I left the service the same way I had come.
I knew that was part of backsliding. I had to do something and I had. I was there, at that church.
It was a small church, yet not a church at all. It was a house. I went to the door slowly, but wanting to run to it. Feeling something awaited me inside that I needed.
Someone inside opened the door for me and I stepped in. Friendly faces turned to stare at me. They were smiling. Then the lady at the door said "Praise the Lord". She was very nice, very real, no put on, which was something I was very use to and aware of. This lady was genuinely kind to me.
She showed me to the middle row of chairs and to a seat. It was a large room with about ten rolls of chairs. The Pastor I realized was speaking. She was tallish and she smiled when I looked up at her. It was the kind of smile that seem to be saying, "You are not alone, the Lord is with you and loves you, I love you, it will be alright." Her smile said several things that I needed to hear.
The service went on. The Pastor spoke the prayer. As the prayer went forth, I was totally shocked. Everyone seem to be praying in tongues. I just listen not sure I could pray in tongues again. Then the praise and worship service went forth. One of the sisters led three songs. Her voice was a melody in itself. There were no drums or piano, yet the saints still praised the Lord. And in the midst of this the Lord came in.
Saints near me just got to their feet and began to praise the Lord in shouts and prayer. I just looked on in amazement. I closed my eyes for only a moment it seem, thinking this is what I want. Then I open my eyes and there the Pastor was standing in front of me. She took hold of my hands and guided me to my feet gently. She pull me in her arms and held me. There she whispered, "There is nothing in this world for you"
And I wondered how did she know I was on the verge of backsliding. Then she said, "There is more to the Holy Ghost baby. You are in a relationship with God"
Then she prayed for me. She anointed me with blessed oil and laid hands on me and prayed. At her touch, I felt light. I felt a peace. I felt the Holy Ghost again. Seconds may have passed maybe minutes. I was aware I lay on the floor speaking in tongues. I felt the presence of the Lord. My eyes were shut yet I felt the tears and as I spoke I saw the Lord in a bright light. I couldn't see his face, but there draped a long white robe from his head to his feet. And as I spoke in tongues I heard the Lord say, "I have heard your cry and I have answered thee."
Sometime later I sat in the Pastor's office, while she talked to me. She open up my understanding to the Holy Ghost. She said, "There is more than just having it. It is power. Power over the devil and you have to fight for it. In order to fight you have to be fed by the word of God. The word will show you how to use this power that you have over the enemy. We are in a spiritual fight, but you are able. And it does not stop there. We are to be witnesses just as the disciples of old. Getting the Holy Ghost is just the start. There is so much more."
I told her how I felt there must be more. She just smiled and said, "I know"
I started to attend that old-fashion church. And I changed. I knew I could communicate to God in tongues. I knew the Lord was with me. As the Pastor had said, it was more to the Holy Ghost, much more. Peace, joy, security, love, all the things I had felt the day I was saved, I felt them again.
I have grown and am continuing to grow. I have learn how to fight with this great gift God has given me. I have felt the need of
wanting to share this gift, wanting someone to know they can be saved also. I continue to speak daily to my Lord in tongues. It was time for a change. And the Lord directed me, directed me to that
Little old fashion Church………
