This book highlights the memories and the lives of the 24 men selected to the first Interuniversity All Canada Football team. The team was selected in 1971.
In the fall of 1971, Canadian Interuniversity Sport named its first All Canada Football Team. The 24 athletes named to that team each received a poster containing photos of all 24 players. This book reflects on the football memories and careers of those 24 men. The stories in this book reveal how each member of the team found their way to the university they played for in 1971, and more importantly describes the impact that football has had on their lives. Fifteen members of this team will meet in Hamilton Ontario at the Vanier Cup in the fall of 2017. Many of them will be meeting each other for the first time. They all share a passion for the game of football.

The most vivid memories of his time playing with the University of Saskatchewan are the memories he has of his teammates. “I recall that we had a great group of guys that loved to play football and played for the love of the game. We even loved practicing. We had a head coach named Al Ledingham who was a slave driver, but he was a very knowledgeable football coach. He drove us hard. When I look back on it now I realize what he was trying to do. He made us better players and better individuals.”
Glenn spoke of the camaraderie on the team in glowing terms. He reflected on their tradition of going to a local pub after every game, whether they won or lost. “Some of those times were really great! We would rehash the game: ‘Great play,, I saw you smack that guy, great job.’ Unfortunately, at the time we did not realize how we needed to cherish those times more. I wish I had more memories, I wish I had some game films, I wish I had some clippings, I guess; more mementos from that era, so one could look back at it and kind of reminisce. That was a very closely knit group, we would have done anything for each other.”
