Why would a New York novelist give up life in the big city and move to a small town in the Arizona desert? To get away...and find herself. Love makes her understand that she can only belong to one man-who is capable of helping heal her ...mind, body and soul. Only then will she know the true meaning of "heartmate"...

Brianna Donnelley succumbs to an unexplained compulsion, paying cash for a modest ranch in Arizona. Introduced to a local veterinarian, Gregg White Eagle, she is riveted by the cocky warmth and glints of mischief in his amber eyes. He invites her to a hidden crystal cave at sunrise and sees the haunted look slowly drain from her face. Brianna serves an impromptu brunch to Gregg and his grandfather and her new-found peace and delight are shattered before dessert.

Excerpt

Brianna typed the last few lines of her manuscript, the third in her Amethyst Tyler series. She wrote her books with symmetry; beginning, middle, end on a high note. Amethyst had married Mace and their baby was due in the spring. Something in her life had to make sense after what happened to her five years earlier. Each day she added a stack of printouts to her manuscript. Every chapter she finished gave her the satisfaction and control she was desperate for. She punched holes in the last page, slipped it over the rings, and closed the green binder gently.

"Amethyst patted her stomach as the baby inside her kicked hard. She had made a new life for herself...and created another at the same time. Everything was as it should be. Her grandmother's wooden knitting needles whispered together as she made a blanket for the baby. Mace had built their cabin himself and the view was spectacular. They designed it together. A wide porch on the long wall faced south. The sight of the mountain peaks beyond their own lake still took her breath away. When Mace turned from lighting the evening fire and smiled at her with that private glint in his eyes, she felt as if time might stop. And that would be the perfect time for it..."

5 stars Wonderful Vacation Read August 22, 2001 Reviewer:A reader from Rockingham County, NC "This is a finely tuned, well-written book for a first-time author. Her characters are believable, all-too-human people who are strong, intelligent and caring. I also liked the locations as I very much enjoy characters who move from a large city to a small location (especially out west) and have a whole new set of problems to solve. The scenes are very descriptive, making you feel you are there, which is what a good book is supposed to do. Hope she writes many more."

Second Review from Amazon.com
5 stars Friday night book. September 21, 2001 Reviewer: irene gilley soyars from Madison, North CArolina USA A Friday night book is one I start reading and don't want to put down until I finish it. You can't do that on the other nights of the week. I work in a local library and this is the way I rate books for my patrons. A Friday night book is a five-star book. The characters in this book are very believeable and remind you of characters in every small town. Emotionally, the characters in this book take you from hurt to sad to angry, then happy and peaceful. Just as real life does. I do have one suggestion. This author must be a gourmet cook because of all the wonderful food mentioned. I wonder if she would consider putting a few recipes in her next book. A couple of the well-known mystery writers do this and the staff and patrons of our library enjoy trying the recipes, especially the desserts. Looking forward to more books from this author. Good Luck!

3rd Review from Amazon.com
5 stars More, please October 2, 2001 Reviewer: Nick Frech from Tasmania, Australia Being a guy who'd never considered reading a romance novel before, I had no idea what to expect. What I discovered was an engaging story about a woman living her life. I found a depth of detail I really enjoyed, from the genuine warmth of the characters to the descriptions of the Arizona environment. Coming from a large family who always made the time to sit down together for dinner (and having a mother who put a heap of effort into them), I found the mealtime get togethers bringing a smile to my face. A moving read with realistic characters and attention to detail. Well done.
