Busing, Fussing, Busing
The latest round of letters from the school district is ask families who request bus service if they would be willing to pay between $535 and $214 dollars a year to bus students in the morning only to school. I should note that it also includes a disclaimer “if the only way” statement.
Once again this is question of priorities and wants versus needs. The school district members have siphoned away transportation money to technology and chose to allocate general funds to raises, technology which is typically outdated and devalued as quick as it is installed instead of taking care of the needs yes NEEDS of it’s students and their family.
Shame on any school district, which puts its desires ahead of the needs of its customers. You could not operate a business for long in this manner. You cannot claim that you want to fund busing, and recklessly spend money on less needed projects. I am relieved that some members of the board have moved on, but still this busing issue remains.
If district officials didn’t think busing was important to Coronado schools why would we ever have funded it. What makes the current and last administration think they know better than the board members of the past? In short there have always been financial challenges and there always will be. For those residents that do not object to passing transportation expenses on to the student’s families, will you object when they cannot afford Athletics, COSA, or extracurricular activities?
When will enough be enough and the District provide transportation (no matter what) to students as they have for many generations before?
Respectfully
