Horror author, Nickolaus Pacione reviews Anchor Bay Entertainment's The Garden.

A movie like The Garden is one of those movies you have to watch more than once to get the gist of everything and it was produced by well known novellist and Television producer,  Stephen J. Cannell.  Some might give him a lot of flack for doing this kind of movie because of the lack of Biblical accuracy but it makes up for it in the imagination and creativity that the story is done.  The cast in this one includes Lance Hendrickson of Millennium fame.   The movie is one of those that could easy be something that could fit the Millennium series.
First off I got this movie from the production company itself to promote and been doing so on my publisher site, and on various blogs with their next film.   It is an acquired tasted and will grow on you once you sit down and watch it -- it is really surreal in the way it is delivered and my room mate who is an inteviewer says it is very trippy.  So in some sense I am asked by the company who actually puts the film out -- now I am going to do a review in its favor.  As a Horror Writer I do appreciate this kind of movie in the genre,  it is one of the most unique because not many in the genre actually deal with the tree of life and the Four Horsemen.
The lines of Good and Evil were quite blurred in this one, and the main character in the movie was really tormented and had some inner demons that he needed to deal with.  The kind of thing I could easy imagine Nicholas Mounts writing in his fiction or some of the works that are on AuthorsDen.com who knows,  one might end up seeing the writer of this screenplay on here right now.   This one is one of those that is rare for a made for DVD movie;  sometimes when it is designed like that -- people are quick to give it a lot of flack.  I won't say what kind of budget it was done on but I will say it is one of the most creative films I've seen in years.  You'll enjoy this one if you enjoyed the Omen Series or the Prophecy series.
This could be something that Stephen King could write hell could even be something that Macey Baggett Wuesthoff might end up writing if she got the idea for it.  If anyone I think should do this as a novelization,  I personally will have to recommend Macey for this one because she's known for writing Christian horror that is just as dark as the authors H.P. Lovecraft and Algernon Blackwood who both are not Christians.  The way the actors carried the roles are well excuted for a horror film, and this was one of the first horror films I've seen that wasn't rated.
This is a better movie than most of the made for tv horror films or straight to video format.   So if you go to your video store and they don't carry this one, ask them what is wrong with them.  Being this is of the few independant releases I've reviewed along with Open Water,  both movies are set to become classics twenty years from now.   It is good horror film to get my younger sister started on if she wants to follow her older brother's path.  If you also liked Left Behind,  you might as well pick this one up too.

Cannelli is probably more on track. One only has to read the religious comedy hour in the news. Everybody has the best version of God these days and are willing to kill for it.

Thanks for the reveiw. I'll look for it.
