In my younger years in school, I've hit a few home runs; I've thrown a touchdown pass or two; I've won a couple of dance contests, etc. In my later years, I've sold my art work at arts and crafts shows, and I've built an award-winning website. But, nothing compares and gives me more satisfaction, than to put a smile on somebody's face, and I've done it countless times over the years!
Humor has been a passion of mine for so many years, that I am so blessed and thankful to the Lord, that I have been given the talent of being a funny person! (knock on wood)
In 2005, I was hospitalized for over three months, and what gave me greater joy, is when I could make one of the other patients laugh, even if it was just for a few seconds! The reward was undescribable!
"I wonder if illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?" Jerry Seinfield
Over the last few years, I have received hundreds of emails from all over the world concerning my website and work, and the following two emails, are examples of why I've been in the humor business most of my life.
"Jer...thanks for sharing your insightful web pages. I've been going through a rough time with my health, and your pages have made me laugh...and made me see the humor in my own situation...thanks...Michele."
"Jer...thanks for a clean and positive website. I have many shut-in or recovering friends, who treasure uplifting humor. Humor is truly the best medicine for our pain...both physical and emotional. I know that I will be able to come to your site for a joke that is clean. You fill an important role for family-friendly laughter...Maria."
Over the years, people have told me, that I should have been a stand-up comedian, but that's not possible because I suffer from stage fright! I've always admired people who can speak in public. So, I'll just have to settle for being a "sit-down" comedian on the computer, and teach myself to write humor, etc.
One thing is for sure...if you get into the humor business, you will never have trouble making friends. Once I make somebody laugh...I've made a friend!
"It is a curious fact that people are never so trivial as when they take themselves seriously." Oscar Wilde
In school, I was never the class clown. Quite the opposite. You see, I'm Hispanic, and at a young age, my family lived in the barrio near the railroad yards, in one of the poorer sections of town! I spoke a lot of English AND Spanish...Spang-lish, and I didn't speak or write the English language well at all. When my family moved out of that dreadful neighborhood, and into a White neighborhood, the kids teased me because of my terrible Spanish accent, and the way I spoke, etc. The move was good for me, despite the culture shock, because now I only spoke English, and little by little, I began to speak and write English better.

One of the purposes of my website, is to encourage people to get more humor into their lives and work, etc. What is one of the best ways to learn? From others, right? Learn from their experiences (good and bad); their education; their wisdom; knowledge; and their skills and talents, etc. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to get into the humor business. But, like anything else, it takes time to develop your humor skills and talents as a humorist. "Rome wasn't bullt in a day!" How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice; practice; practice...and you can be in the humor business, too!
"Humor is the best shock-absorber in life." Unknown
My advice to anyone wanting to get into the humor business, is to start slowly; start with short pieces for smoother delivery; memorize short pieces if you have to; use fresh material, etc. The best place to start is around the home from your kids; your brothers and sisters; your husband; your wife, etc. You have to be able to capture those funny moments that you observe on paper. (just one or two words)
Don't let those funny incidents get away, and with time and practice...you'll be one of the funniest humorists that ever lived! Go for it...you can do it! The reader can view any of my articles on humor which include:
- Article: How I Got Started in Humor; I nearly died that awful day at the picnic when I was only 11 years old!
- Article: Just Say NO To Dirty Humor; A person doesn't have to be dirty to be funny! Dirty humor is not acceptable to me.
- Article: Humor 101 for Dumbos: If you want to be funny like me, just take my advice. (I didn't know you were in humor, Jer!)
- Article: How Humor Helps Me To Cope: Everyone has a passion they love, and mine just happens to be humor.
- Article: The Positive and Healing Power of Humor. Humor is much more than gathering a bunch of jokes from the Internet.
- Article: The Negative Side of Humor; Unfortunately, humor has a negative side to it, and it is not acceptable to put somebody down or tease somebody...just to get a laugh!
- Article: Humor Helps Us All to Cope With the Aging Process; Like it or not, we're all getting older, and we should try to make the best of it.
The positive and healing power of humor cannot be measured. The one thing that brings the most joy and happiness into my life is when somebody says, "Jerry is so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-
funny!" SEE YA!
