Parable - a heavenly message with an earthly message.

Daniel 9:1-7, 17-19

Verse 1

IN the first year "of" Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of Medes, "which" was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

"of" - Daniel 1:21

Yea, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

"which" - Or, in which he

Verse 2

In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by "books" the number of years, whereof the word of the LORD came to "Jeremiah" the prophet, "that" he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

"books" - the books

"Jeremiah" - 2 Chronicles 36:21

To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths:  for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

"that" - for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jersualem, even seventy years

Verse 3

Promise - "U" - The Upright are Blessed and Prospered

And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

"U" - Daniel 11:32

Promises - "V", "U"

V - Victory over Enemies and Troubles

U - The Upright are Blessed and Prospered

And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries:  but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Verse 4

Promise - "U"

"U" - The Upright are Blessed and Prospered

And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

Verse 5

We "have" sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy percepts and from thy judgments:

"have" - I Kings 8:47

Yet if they shall be think themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness:

Psalm 65:9-13 ...... Infinite power and goodness of God

Verse 9

Thou visitest the earth, and "waterest" it:  thou greatly enrichest itg with the river of God, which is full of water - thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

"waterest" - Or, afer thou hadst made it to desire rain

Verse 10

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly:  "thou" settlest the furrows thereof:  "thou" makest it soft with showers:  the blessest the springing thereof.

"thou" - Or, thou causest rain to descend into the furrows thereof.

Verse 11

Thou crownest "the" year with thy goodness; and thy "paths" drop fatness.

"the" - the year of thy goodness

"paths" - Psalm 104:3 (Psalm 104 - Of God's mighty power, you may read this entire Psalm in your spare time)

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters:  who maketh the clouds his chariot:  who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Verse 12

They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness:  and the little hills "rejoice" on every side.

"rejoice" - are girded with joy

Verse 13

The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

I Kings 8:23, 32

Promise - "U" - The Upright are Blessed and Prospered

And he said, LORD God of Israel, "there" is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:

Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

Verses 37, 38, 39, 40

Promises - "B", "H", "V", "B"

enemy besiege - ambush .......... BIBLICAL DOCTRINE

"B" - The Lord's Blessing on Fields and Flocks

"H" - Health and Healing Promised

"V" - Victory over Enemies and Troubles

If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their "cities;" whatsover plague, whatsoever sickness there be;

"cities" - or, jurisdiction

What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:

Then hear them in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart hou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men:)

That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou goest unto our fathers.

Daniel 9:1-7. 17-19

Verse 6

Neither "have" we hearkened unto thy servants to the prophets, which spake in thy name ot our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

2 Chronicles 36:15

And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them "by" his messengers, rising up "betimes," and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:

"by" - by the hands of his messengers

Verse 7

O Lord, righteousness "belongeth" unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trepass that they have trespassed against thee.

"belongeth" - Or, thou hast

Verse 17

Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

Verse 18

O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city "which" is called by thy name:  for we do not "present" our supplications before thee for our righteousness, but for thy great mercies.

"which" - where upon thy name is called

"present" - to make thee skillful of understanding

Verse 19

O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God:  for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
