"Whenever I get that feeling of wanting to exercise...I lie down until that feeling goes away!" Robert Hutchins
My father and I were so different, and I don't think he ever got his exercise during his entire lifetime before his death, etc.
I'm a life-long sufferer of headaches, and when I was in the U.S. Air Force (1970), I began to suffer from the unforgiving migraine headaches. In 1986, I thought jogging and pumping iron, would help me reduce stress associated with the headaches. And, so I started jogging 15 miles a week. It did help me to reduce the stress and it helped me to feel better all around, etc.
"Exercise is a dirty word! Every time I say it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate!" David Walters
In the year 2008, I continue to jog 15 miles a week, and over that long period of time...and since 1986, that translates to over 17,000 miles since I have been doing this. Here, in sunny New Mexico (where I live), the sun shines almost the year around, and I love to go out and watch the sun rise; or the sun set; see the blossoms in the spring time; or go out and watch the leaves turn colors in the fall. So, it's all about quality of life to go out and be out among nature and enjoy the sights, etc.
"I'm pushing 60 now...and I think that's enough exercise for me!" Mark Twain
In 2001, I lost 40 pounds (See; Here's the Skinny On How I Lost 40 Pounds), and jogging helps me to keep my weight in line at 170 pounds and to stay fit. Jogging also helps me to burn off calories. I saw a news story recently, whereby jogging/exercise helps with the mental health as well, by helping to keep plaque from developing on the brain. We all have to be concerned about that in the future, don't we?
Jogging also helps to keep the blood-pressure and the cholesterol down, too. I am not a pill-taker, and I feel like the more chemicals a person takes in...the more damage that can be done to other organs in the body, etc.
"My idea of exercise, is a nice brisk sit!" Phyliss Diller
I think I get so many ideas for my work...that is my website; my writing and art work, because jogging helps me to keep the head clear and refreshed! There's nothing that feels better than to get a face full of sweat and then a nice shower afterward. Jogging and pumping iron, helps me to sleep better as well.
The biggest benefit of exercise, comes to me in the area of age. In 2008, I am 63 years young, and nobody ever guesses my age...they don't even come close. Almost everybody guesses my age to be 7-10 years younger than I am. And, I don't do what I do to look younger...I do what I do to stay out of a doctor's office! But, if looking younger comes with the territory...that's all frosting on the cake...and I'll take it!
"I don't really think I need buns of steel. I would be happy with buns of cinnomon." Ellen DeGeneres
Commitment; (definition) a pledge or promise; obligation
Yes, I made a promise to myself way back in 1986, that I would take better care of myself, and during this long period of time, I have also pumped iron, to take care of the upper body, etc.
And, as I get older...I have one small change. I will now start "pumping aluminum," instead of iron! And later on, when I really...really get old...I'll start "pumping aluminum foil." Ha-ha-ha...
