A comparison between prices at convenience stores and other stores

Dropping off my daughter at skate practice, I inform her that I am going to the 7-11 for a cup of coffee. She in turn and right on cue asks for a Power Bar and an Orange Gatorade. I comply with her wishes and usually end up spending more than I had intended. After all, I only went there for a simple cup of coffee, which by the way is cheaper at a convenience store than at Starbucks. That was my whole point for going to 7-11 in the first place; otherwise Starbucks gets my vote any day. But it is what it is and we Americans pay for convenience. Some say that there are people who worship the God of Convenience. Me, I just need my coffee.

We all forget things. We all need things immediatel, well almost immediately. It is this consumers opinion that using your local convenience store for most things like running out of milk needed for that important recipe or needing headache pain reliever when the grocery store is closed is a necessity. I do not, however, appreciate my constant forgetfulness when it comes to Power Bars, Gatorade, or even a bottle of water. These items are much more expensive at the local 7-11 or Mobile On The Run than they are at Wal-Mart, Winn Dixie, or Publix. Power Bars for example are $1.69 at 7-11 and only run around a buck at Wal-Mart.

I could save even more money should the "star" in my life decide that should wanted to make Power Bars a daily staple in her diet by going to one of the Big Box stores like Sam's or Costco. We have been down this road before with Cliff Bars. Unfortunately, she decided after I bought them "in bulk" that she didn't like them any more and therefore was not going to eat them. You are probably wondering what the moral of this story is. Well, it is simple. Before you buy anything in bulk make sure that it will get used. I for one probably will continue to buy Power Bars in the single form from the local convenience store or Wal-Mart and not buy them in bulk.
