SPORTS;
For the first time in my life (69 years of age), and on January 1, 2014, I did not watch a single football game on television...and not even a partial game. HIGH FIVES FOR ME!
Let's face it, college and pro sports are filled with liars and cheaters, and I've been cutting down on sports for the last ten years. I don't have any doubt, that the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl will be on cable next year (2015) and that will be fine with me. I've been turned off with sports for many years, and I have not watched a single Major League game in over 20 years; no NBA basketball games; and now NO NCAA title game!
Nothing but GREED in sports; over-paid players in the professional sports, who are not worth what they make; over-paid coaches; managers and owners. STRIKES AND BOUNTIES on players on the opposite team. I haven't watched sports to watch players get injured...INTENTALLY by others. And, that's what happened in 2012, when there were bounties put on other players by the New Oleans Saints. Their coach got suspended by the League a year. (NFL).
I think the year was 1979, when the GREED began in NCAA football, when Jackie Sherril, the coach of the number one Pittsburg Panthers, was lured to coach the Texas A-M Aggies. And, in the year 2014, the GREED has not stopped. Football coaches (in any sport), are not worth what they get paid...period!
Loyalty in the NFL does not exist...because of GREED and the players want to make more money when their contracts come due. The only two players that I see were loyal to their teams, were Jerry Rice of the 49ers and Saunders of the Detroit Lions.
Millionaires playing millionaires on the field...who are not worth what they make. I'm glad I've gotten out of wasting my time with sports over the last several years. My boycott of sports includes golf; tennis and the worst of them all...biking! And, who are the most worthless in all of sports...THE FANS WHO PAY THE GREEDY TICKET PRICES TO SEE THESE JERKS!
In 2013, I followed the NFL, (out of the corner of my eye), because my team, the San Diego Chargers (Shame on ME), made it to the playoffs, and won their first game.
CABLE; I'm not paying $75 dollars or more to sit in front of a television set wasting my time. At last count, I think there are about 17 trillion sites and networks to visit, and that's the problem. Cable can be educational, and addicting, too, so care must be exercised to not go overboard in having cable take up much of your time.
I was in the hospital a few years ago for a week, and all I did all week, was to watch cable television. All kinds of interesting channels, and I got hooked immediately, and when I was discharged from the hospital, I called the cable company to sign up for cable. MISTAKE; cable was going to take up my time, and the cost was too high, so I called the cable company and cancelled the order.
One of the best things I have done for my writing, because, now, I would not be distracted by watching so much television. In seven years of writing, I have produced about 400 articles; and I have 6 eBooks on the drawing board, and I think it's because I have stayed away from television and cable television. And, yes I do watch television...only on PBS...as I enjoy watching shows like Nova; the American Experience; Frontline; etc.
I have to constantly discipline myself to stay away from cable, now that most sporting events are going, I am getting help from cable to stay away.
