Denmark dares mixing itself into Israel’s?

If the indirect talks between Israel and Hamas set to start Tuesday in Cairo do not yield significant Israel concessions, the EU should consider trade sanctions against Israel, Denmark’s foreign minister said on Monday.

According to the website of the Danish English news site, The Local, Martin Lidegaard told the Danish Jyllands- Posten newspaper that if Israel does not commit to end its “blockade” of Gaza and stop “illegal settlements,” then tougher steps should be adopted.

“If nothing happens in the peace talks this time, and if we don’t see a new pattern of response from Israel’s side, then we will need to discuss the possibility of taking new steps, including changes to our trade relations with Israel,” he said.

How come a small European country like Denmark dares mixing itself into Israel’s policies towards Hamas and threatening to change its relations with Israel, and advising the EU to consider trade sanctions against Israel, should the outcome of the indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas not please Denmark’s foreign minister Martin Lidegaard? Since the establishment of the EU, certain Europeans take the liberty to threaten Israel in the name of the EU. The EU has no business to influence the outcome of negotiations in the Middle East.

Has he forgotten how Denmark reacted when the Germans invaded Denmark and King Christian X saved the lives of most of the Danish Jews? Would he like to see Israel in harm’s way by the terrorists surrounding it, among which is Hamas?
