Life is not for cowards, not for calloused people or deluded ones who can't feel anything real anymore. Life is beautiful and ugly, joyful and dreadful.
They say life is what you make it and to a degree I believe that's true . We all have a multitude of choices we must make that influence our lives....but life is full of jolts and surprises. Life is a montage of things that are beyond our ability to change and sometimes almost beyond our strength to deal with.
Life is for living, for feeling. Feeling is how you know you are still alive and functioning as a human being.
I have come to the conclusion that I want to feel everything life brings, honestly and deeply. I won't be wound up in religious or philosophical systems of belief until I can feel only what they allow me to feel. I don't want to be so divorced from human frailty and sorrow that I am unable to feel the joys and sorrows of myself and others.
If ivory towers are the places we look down from on the sufferings of humanity then deliver me from ivory towers. If I ever come to the place that I think I have an answer for everything I and others experience in life then I'll know I've lost the spark of my humanity to the delusions of hypocrisy. Platitudes and even scriptures do not and never will explain all the ups and downs of a lifetime. If you want to bury you head in the sand of these things, you will become only a shadow of a person never the flesh and blood, living and feeling human you were created to be. Disconnected, that's what you become, disconnected from your own feelings and the feelings of others. That's not strength, that's not living, that's just a cop out.
life is hard and you have to be tough to survive or maybe just live in la la land where nothing affects you at all. God save us all from living in La La Land.

I believe we all have our own perceptions of life, due to what we have had to endure...whether it was happy or sad. You left out those of us who live with a mental illness, (bi-polar) and sometimes I am in La La Land.
People look at the world now through the instantaneous sensational news that comes to them through Facebook, texting, their favorite blog, Twitter, or the nightly news. All of these sources of information are vying for the most horrendous or sensational item of the day with as many viewers or hits as possible. The end result is fear. The fear that all of this crazy stuff is happening right outside the door.
On the other hand, most of these people are tied up in a circle of work, family or friends where they tend to act and think like the leaders of the circles, primarily to avoid conflict. As a result, their thinking is limited to whatever likes or desires the circle's leaders have. And especially, what the group fears or dislikes. Let's face it, most people, in spite of what they might say, are sheeple.
What your article says me is that we should all take on life as it really is, much better than the sensational news we are bombarded with. And that we should embrace it and experience it while we still have life left to live it. Bravo for that!
Our culture has taught us to believe in many ideas which aren't actually real. Exposing these illusions allows us to recover the power to live our lives according to our deepest desires.
