Hi Richard, You are one of the few men that I read that write with true emotion. Living does not come with a manual, especially when extenuating circumstances come our way. You write well from a departed souls regret... thank you for sharing parts of yourself... outstanding...
Such a prose of many words, bringing me to my reflection of my own iniquities I shall reflect a bit, using your fine words as an example of digging deeply within to find a calm and fulfilled place to live during the rest of my breathing days. This is oh, so beautiful. The beauty we find in our friends, lovers, and/or family is amazing, but sometimes, we are all guilty of becoming so consumed in our own daily lives that we fail to express our gratitude towards those loved ones. When we realize this fact too late, we long for the chance to "make it all better." I know this, all too well. Fortunately, life has presented me the chance to undo the past with those still living; if only I had the chance with those now gone.

I did read "IF" with the eyes of my mind, the eyes of my heart, and the eyes of my soul; and this poem fulfilled all of them, and did it with the beauty of expression, the art of presentation and the wisdom of contents.

Richard, I mentioned that I don't know much about poetry, but I do know when I've read something that speaks to me. What each of us wouldn't give to be able to go back and do things right...or better yet, to never have done them wrong.
Oh, If only! This is deeply passionate and moving. The aching, longing for what was and is now gone. Of how we are all just human and make mistakes. I am keeping this one, for my treasure chest!

Richard, this is a masterpiece...not just because it is so well written, not just because you have a wise soothing voice that is lovely to listen to, but the reader can feel throughout the entire poem, that is was written from the heart...and I have to tell you Richard I don't read near enough of these kinds of poems these days. An excellent poem. I like your ability to confess weakness, which actually shows strength of character. None of us are perfect. If we see our flaws, though, we have something to strive toward when hoping to improve. I also like how this poem comes full-circle in the telling. Your voice is perfect for public speaking!

This is a gem thru every line, so many walk this path, without wisdom and appreciation for the gift of life given here on earth, brings back the memories of a friend years ago who was dying and wanted to apologize to many he had hurt in life, trying to make up for the years he lived without ever realizing time was running short, to bad he was short on wisdom throughout his lifetime, ..... We all have regrets in life, but you show us here how important it is to do those things and to say those things that need to be said and done before we lose the opportunity. So many times we have the tendancy to wait...thinking we have all the time in the world...and then the unexpected happens. This is just beautiful.

Wow...thank you for this beautiful spoken word art. My first time to hear voice from Authorsden. It was worth it. Now I can go back to some of the other musical and vocal saved authors and listen.
The deliverance of If is pivotal in verse, that people do not obliterate their faith. A granite monument in a thinker's pose to align with each day's sunrise of how we chose to live our lives, a message in transit, Richard - a blueprint of what it looks like in reflection when we leave this plane of life and the wisdom of afterlife tempered by past memories brought to life as a tribute to Jodi in a living voice. I hear such devotion in the recital. Be well.

I think this is true of everyone inasmuch as life is a lot like trial and error that offers wisdom and learning through our mistakes.
When I hear someone beating themselves up over past mistakes that they weren't even aware they were making until after the fact, I tell them they did the best they knew how to do at that particular time in their life. We all do, because we exhibit the intelligece of what we have learned at any given time during our life journey.
Life is a process of doing, analyzing, and changing--providing we are seeking to perfect ourselves to the best of our ability.
You can tell by my wordiness how much your poem fired up my thoughts. A great write, Richard, and my blessings to you and Jodi.
