Touch wood — after commenting on one’s good fortune.
Cross Fingers — and hope for luck.
Say ‘White Rabbits’ on the first day of each month.
If a black cat crosses one’s trail, Good luck will fail.
Walk under ladder — luck runs sadder. Fear, ignorance and superstition, With each other go hand in hand, They enjoy a common mission: Force body from mind’s command! Humans nurse and cleave to curse — Remnant terrors from ancient eras? Thinking the worst, gone perverse? Hellish calderas that belch chimeras? Whenever any sane person clings To notions unrelated to natural law — Except for entertainment it brings — His reality account does overdraw. Our mind, reality’s navigation tool, Like fine optics, its focus out of tune, Can’t compare perception to rule, If shroud of superstition festoon. This toxin into mind machine, Damages like sugared sand, Brings mocking joker to scene, Renders cognition a wasteland. Has human race progressed at all, Grasped a rung on wisdom’s ladder? Some step upward, alas, to fall — Shunning reality’s a serious matter.
Wise thoughts! Thank you, Leland. Love and peace. Regis

Obviously I'm not superstitious or I wouldn't now possess a black cat.

Hey! What's wrong with any of those? Red sky is true, been testing it for 60 years, things come in threes...that happens too. But I must admit...the rabbit's foot is creepy. The white rabbit? Your kidding, right??? [smiles] Fun piece.

..perhaps there is a so-called power in superstition..apparently the very fact that one believes that something may eventuate as a result of not performing some act/reciting some words to ward of evil assits in its manifestation..we are creators..thus what we believe becomes a reality..the sole danger is in the fact that we truly DO bring into reality that which we TRULY believe..perhaps that is why we try to prevent ourselves from creating a negative scenario by DELETING it in some way or other ..hence the sayings etc..hmm..*smile*
Excellent write..it may nudge us into creating that which is positive simply by being the Light Beings that we are! TY Leland!!!!
Hello L good piece your wrote here. I'm not superstitious but my wife is. One time we were sitting eating a pizza and the maintaince women swept my wifes feet. She chased the lady grabbed the broom and spit on it. Then chewed the woman out, I was so embarassed. cheers. G
I love when you do these writes Leland! You cover them so perfectly! My mom and family were so superstitious it's a wonder I survived;-) Family tradidions are the worst. Just an example: Russians color eggs for easter, then get holy water from the church to bless the eggs. In some way I never understood they think it is evil to eat the eggs if they are not blessed. Of course I dropped that, along with all the other superstitions as soon as I left home;-)but some are hard to forget;-)
Indeed! Some people absolutely LIVE by superstitions....I prefer to live on the edge (haha) and throw caution to the wind. Great poem AND thoughts expressed Leland......
i've heard many of these, and learned some new ones
as usual, your poetry educates, entertains, and flows perfectly! *darn, if i could be so lucky*

You are right. You are right. Still, I will not consciously walk under a ladder and I will always say "Bless you," if you sneeze. Still, I know that you are right. Good stuff here, Leland, entertaining and informative as your posts always are.

Oh how my mother had
many superstitions..
For a while there, I thought they were true...
