Free e-book. A Memoir of Recovery, the medical professions wrote me off, it sounds heavy but is good fun - read the reviews. Will be out in paperback late in 2004 but if you can't wait I am now in the process of loading it as 20 stories here at AD. Download each as they come online or read here.
Update; DEC 2, 2004 The Book will be on sale next week. Return to this page for details of where to buy.

An irreverent memoir of recovery from a serious brain haemorrhage. Funny and easy to read it concentrates on the rebuilding of self - esteem and dignity rather than the medical aspects of the problem. Should interest anybody trying to come to terms with a difficult problem and will certainly change attitudes to brain damage. The book is entertaining reading and will also interest anybody who likes reading about the potential of the mind, unorthodox positive thinking techniques and the power of really stubborn b******s to overcome any obstacle.

A Stroke of Luck will be out in paperback later in 2004 and as I have had a lot of earache from fellow stroke survivors since the free download disappeared from the web (the ISP folded and I could not be arsed building another website for a while) I am now in the process of loading each chapter on my stories page here at AD. Jump to the Stories menu and follow it through - there will be a delay in getting all chapters on as it is not fair to other authors to hog the front page.

Cheers,
Ian

Excerpt

EXTRACT
From Chapter 7

Cathy (a physiotherapist) wrapped herself round me, pelvis pressed against my left hip and a thigh hooked over my buttocks as she began to push upwards on the paralysed muscles of my back. "I'm trying to promote elongation here" she said. There was elongation but not where she wanted it. To avoid embarrassment I tried to recite Hamlet's soliloquy but the obly line of Shakespeare that came to mind was "Oh that this too too solid flesh would melt"

Nice excerpt. Enjoyed your choice of words.

You need to have someone in the next room as you read this, because you have to share it - if you can speak while you're rolling on the floor.
